BRIGHTON De Koog (Texel) _ 13 km

After a night spent camping in Den Helder, we leave our vehicle on July 5 at the ferry port of Den Helder, 100 km north of Amsterdam. The ferry takes us to Texel, an island belonging to the archipelago of the Wadden islands, bordered by the Wadden Sea to the east and the North Sea to the west. We are not here by chance, the info found on the website "Planet roller" indicate that Texel is an island ideal for practice Skating part of its wilderness and especially many bicycle paths (as everywhere in Holland for that matter). We therefore embark on the ferry with our skates in hand, our bags loaded with ultra-light (virtually the same equipment as for our 37-day hike in the Alps last year). We must also carry walking poles to mount the shelter, they are hooked to bags Toutanmesh.
For this first experience of touring with hiking backpack and roller, our team is made up of three adults quadra (Denis, Cathy and Frances) and two "teenagers" (Melissa and Apollonia). We are not pros skating and some even sometimes hard to brake, where the full panoply of protection!

arrived on the island, we headed towards the chief place "Den Burg" with a track surface and variable along the road. Good prospects of the polders and the half-barns oriented upwind.

Visiting the village is in socks or roller "Freestyle" because as we will check later, the Dutch cities were often paved streets. We continue to De Koog we find a beautiful campsite in the dunes of the National Park which covers all dunes west of the island.
We have the feeling to bivouac in the wilderness, completely isolated from neighboring shrubs.
Melissa Frances and discover the delights of meals on the floor with alcohol stove and mess ... It's nice, but the wind is strong: the North!

KOOG-DE COCK THE VILLAGE (Texel) _ 21 km 32 km

Our journey continues with some very nice tracks between wild dunes and polders, we passed hundreds of geese, cows, placid marsh shimmering in the light of the North, many cyclists ...
In the dunes, small hills and down hills all sweet:

arrived at the picturesque village of Cocksdorp, just north Island, we take information on the crossing by boat to the island of Vlieland. Appointment is made for the next day in a house overlooking a large Viking wharf consisting of poles stuck in the mud. We do our shopping in the village in thongs or tennis (always the cobblestones!) and then join a 4 star campsite situated on the dunes.

VLIELAND_

On 7 July, early, here we are at the ferry bound for the island of Vlieland, without the bags, left the campsite.
(The original option was to camp in Vlieland and then cross to the port of Harlingen on the continent with high-back that closes the IJsselmeer dike to make a loop until Den Helder.La Long Straight the giant dam of 32 km oriented to the prevailing winds deterred us. Option-back east coast of Texel is far more wild and fun ...)

Embarking on the houseboat that is binding until the summer giant sandbar at the end of Vlieland.

refuge hut on stilts:
Here we disembark on another pier 100 m poles and planks, and are supported by an 8-wheel drive truck for a crossing of amazing desert to the mainland and an inn located west of the island. The commander of this ship is a kind of yellow Crocodile Dundee inexhaustible unfortunately not in jokes captioned. The western part is a military area where access is restricted (range).

The road connecting the military camp and the village is located is a beautiful smooth ribbon of asphalt with no cars (except a few islanders): paradise roller, with panoramic views of the Wadden Sea and the natural reserve of dunes.

The Dutch fans have thrown down the gauntlet ...
The tension mounts in anticipation of tomorrow's semifinal against Uruguay!
In the marshes and mudflats, we see hundreds of wild geese and other migratory birds.

Ouch, pavers, we arrive in town, you have shoes off ...
We loved the village, decked out in orange in anticipation of tonight's semifinal against Uruguay. Very beautiful wooden houses, tastefully restored, small gardens enclosed by fences, small botanical wonders protected by a large dam.

There is almost this road on the island and therefore we do return by the same route. In return, our cowboy Sands performs his job puncher in bringing a creative twist: only a few passengers are screened and folded into eight tickets are processed layer with a nice pattern symétriques.Au back, we see colonies of seals basking on the sandbanks.

On the pontoon back we passed cyclists who roam the entire West Frisian Islands in the connecting ferry. Why not skating and continuing until the German Frisian Islands or Denmark: nice project to keep his elbow!
